CNC Mill
What is it?
The Roland MDX-50 Benchtop CNC Mill is a rapid prototyping machine that uses subtraction ("carving") to create 3D
objects. This machine can mill foam, wood, plastics, and other materials.
How do you use it?
-
Prepare an object to print using one of the following methods:
-
Find, download, and save an already-made object at thingiverse.com, tinkercad.com, or just Google search. Make sure you're downloading .stl files.
-
Design your own object using 3D Design software such as Tinkercad, SketchUp for Schools (in the G Suite) or Fusion360 (make sure to save it with a .stl file extension).
-
-
Save your file to a flash drive, save it to your Google Drive, or email the file to yourself.
-
Visit Mrs. Henning in the media center with your material to be milled and load your file into the SRP Player CAM software to prepare it for printing. Check the dimensions of your object before it prints. All prints must be paid for in advance and are non-refundable.
What is the largest object the CNC mill can print?
-
15.8” (X) x 12” (Y) x 5.3” (Z) (400mm x 305mm x 135mm)
How much does it cost?
-
The cost to use this machine is $5 per hour plus materials if you purchase them from the fab lab.
How long does it take?
-
Prints usually take an hour or more, depending on the sizes of the objects. Objects will be printed on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, objects that are school-related will be printed before objects that are not for school.
